Bob Earl were an American soul music singing duo in the 1960s, best known for writing and recording the original version of "Harlem Shuffle. The original duo were Bobby Byrd and Earl Nelson (born Earl Lee Nelson, 8 September 1928, Lake Charles, Louisiana - 12 July 2008, Los Angeles) They had both been members of The Hollywood Flames, a prolific doo-wop group in Los Angeles, California whose major hit was "Buzz Buzz Buzz" in 1958, on which Nelson sang lead. By 1957, Byrd had started a parallel solo career, writing and recording for contractual reasons as Bobby Day. He wrote and recorded the original version of "Little Bitty Pretty One", and had a hit of his own with "Rockin' Robin" (1958). In 1960, Day / Byrd and Nelson began recording together as Bob Earl, on the Class record label. However, these releases had relatively little success, and Day / Byrd restarted his solo career. In 1962, Nelson then recruited a second "Bob", Bobby Relf (January 10, 1937 - November 20, 2007), who also used the stage names of Bobby Garrett and Bobby Valentino. Relf had already led several Los Angeles based acts in his career, including the Laurels, the Upfronts, and Valentino and the Lovers. The latter two groups also featured the then pianist and bass singer, Barry White. This duo of Relf and Nelson recorded several singles for different labels, before recording "Harlem Shuffle" in 1963. The song was written by Relf and Nelson, arranged by Barry White[1][2], and produced by Fred Smith. It was based on a number called "Slauson Shuffletime" (named after a boulevard in Los Angeles) by another Los Angeles singer, Round Robin[3]. When released on the Marc label, "Harlem Shuffle" became a modest hit on the RB chart. Its vocal interplay directly influenced later duos such as Sam and Dave. However, its main success came as late as 1969, when it was re-released in the UK and became a Top Ten hit there. Reportedly[4], George Harrison called it his favourite record of all time. By that time, Nelson had achieved further success as a solo artist under the alias of Jackie Lee, with "The Duck", a hit dance record released in 1965, which reached #14 in the U.S. (Jackie was Nelson's wife's name and Lee his own middle name). When "Harlem Shuffle" became successful on reissue, Nelson and Relf reunited as Bob Earl to tour. However, the duo split up for the last time in the early 1970s.

Plot With Galleria (Raven-Symoné) at the University of Cambridge in England, Chanel (Adrienne Bailon), Dorinda (Sabrina Bryan), and Aqua (Kiely Williams) are cast in the lavish new Bollywood movie "Namaste Bombay". The Cheetah Girls travel across the globe to India. There, they meet Rahim (Rupak Ginn), the man cast as the lead, whom they realize is attractive, yet somewhat clumsy. After meeting the movie's choreographer, Gita (Deepti Daryanani), a dance battle erupts between themselves and Gita with her backup dancers, they discover that the musical's director, Vik (Michael Steger), must choose only one Cheetah for the role as the budget is only enough for one star. When it becomes apparent that they must travel home, they are upset, until realizing they may each try out for the lead. Though they all make a promise to be fair in the competition, situations arise in which each member becomes jealous of the others' specific talents. Chanel befriends Vik, Dorinda befriends Gita, and Aqua befriends a boy she has been in contact with since before leaving America, Amar (Kunal Sharma). Each girl is led to believe the producer of the film, Khamal (Roshan Seth), Vik's uncle, will choose her after the audition. Chanel is told because she is the better singer, she will receive the role, while Dorinda is promised the role as she is the best dancer, while Aqua is convinced the coveted role will be hers as she is the best actress. The three Cheetahs audition against one another with Chanel being awarded the role, which she later refuses realizing, as do the the other Cheetahs, that friendship and unity are more important than furthering their individual or group careers. After refusing the role, they set to convince Khamal to award Gita as the lead, to which he reluctantly agrees, ending in a scene from "Namaste Bombay" in which the Cheetahs sing and dance the titular song, "One World". Directed by Paul Hoen Produced by Debra Martin Chase Written by Nisha Ganatra Starring Adrienne Bailon Sabrina Bryan Kiely Williams Music by David Lawrence Cinematography Donald Duncan Editing by Girish Bhargava Distributed by Disney Channel Release date(s) August 22, 2008 Running time 82 min Country United States Language English Budget $25 million Preceded by The Cheetah Girls 2

PHILADELPHIA, January 6,2009(AP) -- All the 76ers needed to finally beat a team from Texas was to fly out of the Lone Star State and head home. Once back in Philadelphia, Andre Iguodala took over. Iguodala tied his season high with 28 points and the reeling 76ers returned home from a dreadful road trip to beat the Houston Rockets 104-96 on Tuesday night. "It was a bigger win than just a 'W' from a morale standpoint,'' Iguodala said The Sixers lost at Dallas and San Antonio in the final two games of a 1-5 road trip and had lost six of seven overall, parking them in last place in the Atlantic Division. Playing at the Wachovia Center and rediscovering that fast-break spark was the perfect tonic. Iguodala continued on his recent scoring surge and scored nine points in the third quarter to help the Sixers stretch the lead to 11. Iguodala nailed a 3-pointer in front of the Rockets bench late in the fourth to halt Houston's 11-2 run that had sliced the gap to six. He sank a runner in the lane for a 98-92 lead that dashed Houston's last-gasp at a comeback win. He shot 12-of-19 from the floor. "I'm warming up a little bit and starting to get that feel that I've been trying to get all year,'' Iguodala said. Iguodala has scored 20-plus points in four straight games and is averaging 20.1 points over the last 17 games after his average dipped to 13.0 through the first 17 games of the season. "It's just about being aggressive again and attacking the basket,'' he said. Now, it's the Rockets who want to get back to Texas. They've lost five straight on the road for the first time since 2004. Houston has lost three straight overall for the first time this season. Luis Scola led six Rockets in double figures with 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Playing for the second straight game without forward Ron Artest (ankle), the Rockets may as well have also played without Tracy McGrady in the second half. McGrady didn't make his first basket of the half until 2:07 remained to make it 98-94, then watched as Sixers rookie Maurice Speights rattled the rim with a dunk that pushed the lead back to six. "We have to really start looking at things and finding out why we're giving up way too high of a percentage to every team that we play,'' Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. "You can't win on the road unless you defend and we haven't been doing it.'' The Sixers entered shooting 49 percent from the floor, but won for the first time at home since Dec. 17 by shooting a robust 56 percent. That kind of percentage is exactly what the Sixers need if they want to vault back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture. "We didn't try and make any home run plays,'' said 76ers guard Lou Williams, who scored 15. "We kept it simple, got the shots and won.'' The Rockets kept pace for a half, had assists on the first 10 baskets of the game and led 55-53 at the break. Then the Sixers got rolling. Thaddeus Young dunked off the break and Iguodala tied the game on a driving layup, the first two baskets of a 19-4 run that gave them a 72-61 lead. Philly dominated on the break, outscoring the Rockets 29-9, making this game a bit like its style of play as it ran into last season's playoffs. "That's the way we want to play,'' Iguodala said. The Sixers slowed down a bit this season with the free-agent acquisition of Elton Brand and have stumbled to a 14-20 start. Brand is making progress while rehabbing his injured right shoulder and the forward could be back with the team in about two weeks. Philadelphia only hopes it can still run and work in Brand as the perfect trailer on the break, and needs him to get back to his usual double-double style when it calls a halfcourt set to put the playoffs on the horizon. "We slid a little bit in the standings and we've got to get back there,'' Iguodala said. "The only way to get back there is go get games. You've got to go get it and that's what we're trying to do.'' McGrady, Yao Ming, Von Wafer and Carl Landry all scored 14 points for the Rockets. "For whatever reason, we've taken a step back on the defensive end,'' McGrady said. "In the past, it's been our makeup. No matter how much we struggled on offense, we always played defense.'' Notes: Andre Miller passed Larry Bird on the career assist list. He's now 32nd. ... Brand hasn't played for the struggling Sixers since he sustained a fracture and tear in his right shoulder on Dec. 17 against Milwaukee. ... Rockets C Dikembe Mutombo did not play. ... The 76ers wished the Eagles luck in their playoff game against the Giants. ... The 76ers haven't had a 30-point scorer this season. Made by NBA TV.

LOS ANGELES, January 6,2009(AP) -- Somebody had to play defense in Tuesday night's Hornets-Lakers game. The Hornets finally did in the fourth quarter, and it proved decisive. David West scored 15 of his 40 points in the final period to outscore Los Angeles by himself, and New Orleans beat Los Angeles 116-105 to snap the Lakers' 15-game home winning streak. The Lakers led 92-89 entering the fourth quarter before shooting just 5-of-21, including 3-of-11 from 3-point range while being outscored 27-13. "We had to pick it up defensively,'' Hornets coach Byron Scott said. "Kobe (Bryant) was hitting everything he was throwing up and they made a bunch of 3s. Defense was our focus. We tried to switch it up and we tried to play Kobe straight up most of the game, but he just got it going so toward the end and we figured that we had to get it out of his hands as much as possible.'' Bryant led the Lakers with 39 points and seven assists, but scored only two in the fourth quarter, shooting 1-of-6 after going 13-of-16, including 6-of-6 from 3-point range in the first three quarters. "After the third quarter, they pretty much weren't going to let me get a shot off,'' Bryant said. "Shots didn't go for us.'' West shot 14-of-23 from the floor and 12-of-13 from the foul line in matching his career high. He also grabbed 11 rebounds as the Hornets (21-10) won for the 16th time in 21 games and avenged two losses to the Lakers in New Orleans earlier this season. "We felt pretty confident that if we were somehow able to slow (Bryant) down, we would have a good chance to win,'' West said. "We needed this one tonight. The first two times we played these guys, they jumped on us.'' The Lakers beat the Hornets twice earlier this season - both times in New Orleans. The teams play for the fourth and final team this season Feb. 20 at Staples Center. "Now we have a chance to split,'' West said. West scored nine points during a 15-0 run that gave the Hornets a 109-99 lead with 5:24 remaining. Derek Fisher's 3-pointer with 4:37 left ended a Lakers scoring drought of nearly four minutes, but the Hornets increased their pressure on Bryant and weren't threatened after that. "He was rolling,'' Hornets star Chris Paul said of West. "When he's going like that, we are going to feed him the rest of the game. He was hitting all types of shots - floaters in the lane, step-backs, and that's why he's an All-Star.'' So is Paul, and he showed why with 32 points, 15 assists, three steals and no turnovers in 44 minutes. Tyson Chandler added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Rasual Butler had 10 points and six rebounds for the Hornets, who shot only 5-of-14 from 3-point range to the Lakers' 16-of-34, but won anyway. "I just didn't think we executed well enough,'' Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "I thought we burned a lot of energy in the third, trying to catch up and stay ahead after getting behind early in the third quarter.'' Fisher added 19 points and six assists for the Lakers, who had their six-game winning streak snapped. They're 18-2 at home this season and their 27-6 overall record is tied with Cleveland for the best in the NBA. "We were out of flow pretty much all night defensively,'' Bryant said. "Offensively, I thought we did OK and got shots that we wanted, but defensively we weren't able to corral them like we normally have the last few times we've played them. Everybody wants to talk about offense; defense is where you win or lose games.'' The 116 points were the most scored by New Orleans this season and the second-highest total given up by the Lakers. Already without third guard Jordan Farmar (left knee) and starting forward Luke Walton (right foot), the Lakers lost sixth man Lamar Odom late in the second quarter with a hyperextended right knee. Odom, who had 12 points and three rebounds in 13 minutes, is scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday, and he'll miss Wednesday night's game at Golden State. West scored six points during a 10-4 run early in the third quarter that extended New Orleans' lead to 75-67. But Bryant made three 3-pointers in a span of 93 seconds and Fisher added another as the Lakers outscored the Hornets 25-10 for a 92-85 lead. Bryant shot 8-of-9 including 4-of-4 from 3-point range for 20 points, and Pau Gasol made all three of his shots and all four of his free throws for 10 points in the third period. Those 10 points were all Gasol would score. He also had eight rebounds and five assists. Made by NBA TV.
