Caterina Valente (born January 14, 1931) is an Italian-born singer, dancer, and actress. She comes from an Italian artist family ; her father Giuseppe was a well-known accordion player, her mother, Maria Valente, a musical clown. She has three siblings, of whom Silvio Francesco was also active in show business, they often teamed up together, both on stage and on records. Life and career: In 1952 Caterina married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with famous orchestras such as Kurt Edelhagen and Werner Müller. In the mid-Fifties she achieved great success in Europe (and not much later worldwide) with songs like "The Breeze and I", "Spiel' Noch Einmal Für Mich Habanero", "Dich werd' Ich Nie Vergessen" and "Casanova" to name just a few. She appeared in several movies (musicals) and in 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. Following Black Swan's premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 1st, a new photo from the film has been released. The movie still shows Natalie Portman getting close with co-star Vincent Cassel. Portman plays the obsessive ballerina Nina, while Cassel portrays her artistic director. Off-screen, Ms. Portman has sparked a romance with her choreographer for the movie, who's also a principal dancer for the New York City Ballet. The pair spent a lot of time together to prep the actress for the role, which involved intense dance training prior to filming. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, the movie focuses on Nina's struggle with rival ballerina Lily, played by Mila Kunis. The dark film will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival September 9th through the 19th and will have a limited US release on December 1st. The title refers both to astrophysics and human impulses, exploring the idea of undetectable forces at work in cosmology. This stunning theatrical hybrid of puppetry and dance opens as a sinister fable in which an artist creates a puppet with fateful results, and culminates in electrifying contemporary ballet. Pite's choreographic language—edgy, gorgeously fluid—shows the influence of years dancing with William Forsythe's Ballet Frankfurt, but is seasoned with her own humor, intelligence, and intensity.
