From universal default clauses to annual fees, here are the most common credit card traps you should avoid: Annual Fees An annual fee is a charge sometimes required by credit card companies for use of an account. These fees usually range between $35-$50 and are most common with subprime credit cards designed for borrowers with poor credit and rewards credit cards. You dont want to have to pay an extra $5 or $10 just to make your credit card payment on time each month. Grace Period Standard credit cards commonly have a 20 to 30 day grace period. This is the period of time when you can pay your credit card bill without being charged interest. It is important for borrowers who like to use their credit cards frequently and pay their bills in full each month to have a long grace period. If your credit card doesnt have a grace period, interest is charged on your debt as soon as you make a purchase. Introductory Rates Most credit card offers these days include an introductory rate for the first few months. A 0% offer can be a great deal as long as you know what strings are attached. How long does the introductory rate last? Does it apply to new purchases and balance transfers? Creditors can usually cancel the introductory rate early if you make a late payment. In some cases, you may have to pay interest retroactively on a debt if you havent paid it off before the end of the introductory period. Penalty Rate If you make a late payment on your credit card, you may have to kiss your good interest rate goodbye for a while. About 75% of credit card providers include a penalty rate clause with their credit card offers. This clause states that your rates can increase dramatically if you make a late payment on the account. The average penalty rate on a credit card is around 23%, a costly increase for a credit card that normally has a 6-12% APR. After about six months of on-time payments, most creditors will consider lowering your APR again. Universal Default Clause This increasingly common policy allows creditors to increase your interest rates if you make a late payment on any account, not just on their accounts. For example, your credit card APR could increase to the penalty rate if you make a late payment on an unrelated loan. Your creditors track your payment history with other accounts by checking your credit report. You can avoid problems with this clause by paying all your bills on time each month. Even with hidden catches, credit cards are one of the easiest and most affordable ways for you to borrow money. Sorry it took so long. I have been busy revising for a GCSE. Tomorrow I am going to Ypres on a school trip and sleeping over at a friends on Saturday. New episodes when I can. I took a deep breath and looked back at Mrs Addison. She had a sympathetic look on her face. She put her hand on my arm. 'It's okay. You can cry if you want to.' she said. 'I think I'm okay. I don't want to go assuming things. It might be nothing.' I said slowly. 'I think that is a very mature way of looking at things. I am very proud of you Daisy.' 'Thanks. Can I get going now?' I asked. 'Of course.' I slowly walked out of the room and made my way to my next class, just thinking about what I had seen. I wasn't in the mood for school. I ditched and went home just before lunch. -Saturday. (Next Day.) It was raining. Hard. I could hear the rain pelting on the rooftop as I sat in silence on my windowseat just looking out at the damp road and other houses. Luckily when I had got home yesterday, my Mum was out. Hopefully she wouldn't find out. I had never done anything like that before. I was always Miss Goody Two Shoes. But I didn't care. Just two more weeks and I could feel complete again. I didn't know whether I should quiz Joe about what I had seen. I didn't want anything bad to happen. Ever since the party, I had ignored Joe's calls. We texted a little though. That way I didn't have to hear his voice. My thoughts were interupted by a car pulling up on my driveway. The windows were blacked out. A person stepped out of the drivers seat with an umbrella over their face so I couldn't tell who it was. My Mum was out again so I went to answer the door. I got downstairs and peered out of the window. The person had their back to me and looked like they were bending down to get something. I opened the door and stepped out into the rain. The person turned around and I instantly became lost in those familiar eyes. He quickly came over and covered me with the umbrella. He smiled. 'J-Joe?' I said. 'The one and only.' 'B-but. What happened to four weeks?' I asked. 'I couldn't take it anymore. I had to see you.' The rain began to let up and Joe put his umbrella down. I went to ask him about the picture, but I hesitated too long. His lips met mine. I pulled away quickly. 'What's wrong?' he said. 'Give me your iPhone.' He looked at me strangely and furrowed his brows and hesitantly handed it to me. I searched for the picture on the internet and then handed it back to him. He took a look at it then gulped. He put his phone away and shoved his hands into hi pockets and looked at the ground. I began to rain hard again. Joe went to put up his umbrella. I put my hand over it. 'Don't worry. I'm going inside.' I said and began to pace back to my house. 'Daisy!' I turned to face him. 'What Joe?' 'I can explain.' 'That's what they all say. So why? Is she your cousin?' 'No.' 'Second cousin?' 'No.' 'What then?' I said bitterly. He just looked at me. I felt warm tears trickle down my face mixing with the raindrops. I wanted to appear strong, but if Joe had seen me cry, it would have given me away. I was thankful for the camouflaging rain. 'Come back when you can give me a good answer.' I said coldly. I turned back around and slammed the door behind me, leaving Joe and his heart out in the rain. I slid down the door and drowned myself in my tears.
