I called he hospital ahead of time so when we pulled into the parking lot a nurse came out with a wheel chair. I helped Carlei into it and kissed her. "Come on, Alice." I called, running to catch up with the fast walking nurse. Her feet stomped onto the pavement, pushing herself to move faster. We ran in and found that they already had a room prepared for us and they hurried her inside. I helped them move her onto the bed and they handed me her hospital gown. "Here, put this on her. Sorry we can't do it ourselfs but we have another patient seconds away from delivery." "What about her?! She screamed bloody murder when she started to have contractions!" "Sir, she's not due right now." "How do you know!? You didn't check her. I demand to have a doctor!" Carlei pulled me down to her height. "Joe, just shut up and let her go." She panted. I gently kissed her then looked up at the doctor. "As soon as that women is done-" "We'll come right in, sir." She smiled then closed the door. I looked over to the couch where Alice was already sleeping. I smiled, then felt that Carlei had relaxed. I looked back to her, and sweat beads rolled down from her forehead. "Are you ready?" I asked. "Of course. It's just, i don't know why this hurts so much. When I was in labor with Alice, it didn't feel like someone was killing me. I feel weak." Tears slipped from her eyes. "Sweetie, it's going to be ok. I won't let anything happen to you. And I'm finally here to help you deliver this baby." I soothed, wiping away her tears. She gently took my hand and kissed my palm. And that's when i noticed her hand was shaking. "You're just over working yourself." "I'm not sure. Women can die giving birth, Joe." "Well, i won't let that happen. Now, let's get this gown on you." She sniffed, then pulled her shirt off. I helped her with the rest and sat back down, holding her hand. Then she grabbed it and screamed. "Do you want me to get the doctor?" I asked, nervous. "No, it's just a big contraction. I want this Baby OUT!'" She sobbed. "Did you decide on the possible names i gave you?" I questioned, stroking her hair. "Yes, I picked one." She breathed. "Can you tell me?" "It's a surprise." I bent down and kissed her. "I love you. And Alice and this little girl." I whispered, running my hands down to her stomach. "I love you too." And that's when quiet time ended.
