"El secretario general habló por teléfono esta tarde (del viernes) con el primer ministro israelí, Ehud Olmert, y le expresó su decepción por la continuación de la violencia en la zona a pesar de la resolución adoptada ayer por el Consejo de Seguridad", dijo la portavoz de la ONU, Michele Montás. Aseguró que Ban está "obviamente preocupado" y recordó que "el Consejo de Seguridad tiene la responsabilidad de mantener la paz y la seguridad internacional y sus decisiones deben respetarse". La portavoz reiteró que el máximo órgano de la ONU "se expresó con claridad sobre lo que tiene que pasar y las partes deberían cumplirlo". El gabinete para Asuntos de Seguridad Nacional del Gobierno israelí adoptó la posición de continuar los ataques en la Franja de Gaza, el referido órgano de alto nivel está formado por el primer ministro, Ehud Olmert, el ministro de Defensa, Ehud Barak y la titular de Exteriores, Tzipi Livni. "Israel tiene el derecho de defender a sus ciudadanos y el Ejército continuará actuando hasta completar los objetivos de la operación, es decir, cambiar la situación de la seguridad en el sur de Israel", rezaba un comunicado de la oficina de Olmert que rechazaba implícitamente el llamamiento de la ONU a la tregua. La jefe de servicios de emergencia en Gaza, Moaweya Hasanein, señaló que al menos 801 palestinos han fallecido y unos 3 mil 300 son los heridos que se han contabilizado debido a los ataques sostenidos por las tropas israelíes. "El 50 por ciento de las víctimas desde que comenzó la ofensiva son civiles, en su mayoría mujeres y niños", destacó Hasanien. También se conoció que entre las últimas víctimas figuran seis familiares de un activista del Frente Democrático para la Liberación de Palestina (FDLP), cuya vivienda resultó bombardeada por aviones del Ejército judío. Según los datos que facilitó Hasanein, entre los muertos hay 230 niños, 92 mujeres, tres extranjeras y tres camarógrafos. En otro ataque de artillería, figura una mujer de nacionalidad ucraniana que fue identificada como Albera Vladimir y su hijo de dos años, en tanto su esposo resultó herido de gravedad. En la localidad de al-Zawaida, centro de Gaza, un bombardeo aéreo asesinó a tres civiles, hiriendo a siete más. Por otro lado, una delegación de Hamas se dirigió este viernes a El Cairo para conocer los detalles del plan para el cese al fuego propuesto por Egipto y Francia. Encabezaron la delegación Ayman Taha, Jamal Abu Hashim y Salah el-Bardawil, a quienes se les unirán en la capital egipcia dos dirigentes del exilio, Mohamed Nasser y Imad el-Alami, que viajarán por su parte desde Damasco para entrevistarse también con las autoridades egipcias.
