On Sunday 4th January 2009 (4-1-9), the Bo'ness Kinneil Railway's 0-4-4T Caley Tank 419 made its last public passenger runs before expiry of its boiler certificate. This is part 2: the 15:00 "Sunset Special", the final run of the day, and indeed the final passenger run of the current boiler ticket. The "up" leg is filmed from the forward vestibule. Despite being 101 years old now, 419 has seen frequent use at the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway. And it is not about to become a static museum piece; it is to be repainted into its BR-era black livery with number 55189 for a week of photo charters, thereafter it will enter the workshops for overhaul. Well, this was it. This was the final day of fun with FGW HSTs for us Valenta cranks. The date was 3rd January 2008. By gum, that feels like a century ago... We start this video at Abergavenny, at around 0510. Yes, we were that committed. Straight out of the station the throttle's wide open for the tackle of Llanfihangel, the most notorious bank on the Welsh Marches. It's a safe assumption to say we enjoyed that! Onwards and upwards from Hereford next then, with most of the journey spent sleeping after a virtually sleepless night in the hotel! We then view 43002 at London Paddington and next at Cardiff Central, where we also watch it head to the reversal siding. Next up we leave Cardiff Central from platform 2, a bit of an unusual occasion. Nice and fitting perhaps... Again at London Paddington next before we see 002 thrash out of Newport (we had been most sociable with fellow cranks on this run, which is why there is little footage). Then it's back to socialising to Swansea, where we then see 002 again. An attempt is made to get the departure at Bridgend, not much luck there. Arriving into London Paddington with 43002 and a Valenta for the last time had to be filmed! Next up, we see 002 start up at London Paddington. There is a seminar photo somewhere, I will try to find it and make it available this week. We finish this part off with the departure from London Paddington. Apologies for the angle, the vestibule was a little full surprisingly enough :p Part 2 coming up!

York - Northern Class 158 Leaves platform 3. Northern Class 142 leaves the bay. Cross Country Voyager leaves platform 5. Another Voyager (Class 221) arrives into platform 10. A Freightliner Class 66 runs light around the avoider. A First Transpennine Class 185 2tones at it departs with a service from Scarborough. Another "Fred" passes behind the station, this one with a rake of HHAs. On the rear of the rake is another example of the 66. A First Transpennine Class 185 leaves platform 5 and joins the Scarborough Line. National Express Valenta 43056 arrives into platform 3 with MTU 43206, this service was oddly going to Leeds only. A Cross Country unit is seen from a NEEC Mk3 vestibule window. We leave York onboard the Leeds bound HST. Leeds - National Express 91115 leaves platform1 with a service for London Kings Cross. A Northern Class 333 follows shortly after. A Class 144, also Northern, runs out of platform 16. Northern/Metro 158/9 departs from the bay. A 142 escapes from platform 5 with a service for either Morcambe or the Harrogate Loop. A North Bound FTPE 185 runs into platform 15. Examples of 2nd generation DMUs pass each other in the form of a Northern Class 150 and 158. A FTPE 185 leaves platform 16.
